The organizer of the Mobile World Congress (MWC), the GSMA,
announced that the annual technology event would still be held in Barcelona,
Spain and extended until 2024.
This was done after the cancellation of the MWC 2020 due to
the SARS-Cov-2 corona virus pandemic (Covid-19).
"MW Barcelona 2021 will be part of the economic
recovery process when we come out of these difficult times (pandemic
Covid-19)," wrote the CEO of GSMA Limited, John Hoffman quoted from the
official GSMA website.
"By extending to 2024, we are pleased to announce this
because we have been given extraordinary support and will present the latest
technologies from participants at the upcoming MWC," he continued.
Actually the MWC was only extended until 2023, but in order
to spoil the participants who could not attend MWC this year due to the corona
virus pandemic, the GSMA decided to extend it to 2024 as reported by Tech
Radar.
The MWC annual event was first held in the Catalan capital
in 2006, then moved to Gran Via, Barcelona in 2013. As a result of the corona
virus pandemic, not only was MWC affected, there were several annual events
that were forced to cancel, for example Facebook.
The social media giant Facebook decided to cancel the annual
event for developers, Facebook F8. Supposedly, Facebook 8 is scheduled to take
place at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center, California, United States on
May 5-6, 2020.
There is also a search engine company, Alphabet Inc., which
canceled the Google I / O event that took place on May 12-24, 2020 in
California, USA.
Google I / O is usually used as a place to introduce updates
in various sectors. Take for example, system updates on Android to updates to
services like Google Maps.
