Nokia and Qualcomm successfully completed interoperability trials in the 3.5Ghz and 28Ghz spectrum that comply with the official 3GG 5G New 3GG standard that was confirmed in December 2017.
The test uses the Nokia AirScale base station and a commercially available prototype device from Qualcomm.
Focusing on the commercialization of 5G technology, with New Radio as a base, trials conducted at Nokia's 5G Technology Center in Oulu, Finland will become the standard field trials for 5G New Radio with operators this year.
"Some of the trials made by Nokia and Qualcomm are important for the advancement of 5G.In essence these trials show how we have quickly implemented the 3GPP Release 15 specification using the AirScale base station, which has been used by more than 100 customers, along with the prototype of Qualcomm Technologies EU, "said Marc Rouanne, President of Mobile Networks, Nokia through a written statement on Tuesday (20/2/2018).
Meanwhile, Cristiano Amon, President of Qualcomm Incorporated, said that the successful completion of end-to-end interoperability connections based on the global 5G Global Radio 5G standard is an important step in launching the 5G New Radio network and commercial equipment that will start in 2019.
"We look forward to further collaboration in standardized field trials, together with Nokia and global operators in order to realize the commercialization of New Radio 5G technology," he concluded.
Nokia, Qualcomm and a number of operators including BT / EE, Deutsche Telekom, Elisa, KT, LGU +, DOCOMO NTT, Optus, SKT, Telia and Vodafone Group are committed to working together to verify and test New 5G New Radio technology.
Such cooperation will refer to the successful interoperability test for the flexible 5G New Radio interface to support a variety of 5G services and implementation scenarios.
In line with the announcement of Qualcomm Technologies and Nokia in September 2017 to collaborate on the 5G New Radio field and with recent successful trials, the two continue to work together in expanding the industry to expand the massive 5G implementation in 2019.
This allows the launch of a targeted commercial network of time by 2019, particularly in the United States, China, Japan, Korea, and Europe
