Little by little, Apple is showing off its targets in the notebook market. Market research shows MacBook shipments past notebooks made by Asus.
Reports from TrendForce note that MacBook shipments grew by 18 percent throughout 2017. The latest MacBook Pro models that rolled in the second quarter of 2017 boosted demand growth in the market.
"... this is the highest growth among all notebook brands," TrendForce wrote in a report dated February 12, 2018.
Whereas in 2016 and Apple only dominate the notebook market by 8.3 percent, put them in the fifth position of the world's largest notebook manufacturers. With the latest reports, the market they controlled rose to 9.6 percent, overtaking Asus to fourth position.
TrendForce even predicts market demand for MacBooks will continue to strengthen throughout 2018 to 10.4 percent market share.
On the other hand, Asus shipments during 2017 are indeed declining. The market share of notebooks by Taiwanese manufacturers dropped from 10.3 percent in 2016 to 9.5 percent in 2017.
"Asus adjusts its product strategy recently and reduces the production of the model (notebook) with a small profit margin, resulting in shipping being affected and the market down to 9.5 percent, fifth in rank," TrendForce analysis shows.
Nevertheless, TrendForce predicts Asus market share will grow slightly in 2018 although still behind Apple.
The results of the notebook market report from TrendForce for 2017 actually did not change much. In addition to Apple shift Asus, the position of the top six did not change at all. HP still holds top rank (24.3 percent), followed by Lenovo (20.2 percent), and Dell (15.2 percent). In the sixth rank there is Acer with 8 percent market achievement.
Overall, the global notebook market grew 2.1 percent with 164.7 million units sent
