The smartphone screen in the future may no longer use glass material. Akhan Semiconductor will be the first to hit the smartphone screen technology with unused material, the diamond.
Reportedly, they will launch this screen on one of the latest smartphone in 2019.
By carrying diamond material, the smartphone screen is believed to be stronger and ten times harder than the smartphone screen that is already on the market.
The diamond screen technology called "Mirage Diamond Glass", using diamonds created in the laboratory.
Launched Android Authority, Monday (2/12/2018), this diamond uses a nanocrystal pattern to reduce damage to the screen. This diamond screen can also be mixed with other materials such as Gorilla Glass to make it stronger.
For now, Akhan Semiconductor is testing the technology to work well. They also attempt to reduce the level of reflection on the screen so that later users can use the screen in bright lighting conditions.
Unfortunately, not yet revealed which vendor will use this diamond screen technology. But according to information circulating, this diamond screen will be used by small vendors, not big players like Apple, Xiaomi, Huawei, or Samsung.
Smartphone with Sapphire Screen
In 2014, the sapphire screen is mentioned will replace the Gorilla Glass screen. However, Corning - vendor Gorilla Glass pembesut - reveal the advantages of Gorilla Glass than sapphire.
'' Safir ten times more expensive, 1.6 times heavier. Sapphires are also not friendly with the environment. It takes 100 times more energy to produce sapphire crystal than glass, "said Senior VP Corning, Tony Tripeny.
Page BGR launch, Tripeny explained the benefits of Gorilla Glass when asked analyst named James Fawcett in a conference call. Fawcett asked for an explanation of Gorilla Glass's superiority over sapphire.
"Sapphires deliver less light so that the battery life of the device is shorter.Although the sapphire is scratch resistant, our Gorilla Glass is able to withstand 2.5 times the weight," Tripeny added.
Gorilla Glass Still Beneficial
Not until there, Tripeny also revealed the reason his company did not produce sapphire-made screen. According to Tripeny produce Gorilla Glass is much more profitable than sapphire screen.
"Safir takes 4,000 times longer than Gorilla Glass, and in addition to higher melt temperatures, the hardness of the sapphire surface makes it harder and more expensive to process," he said.
Safir itself is not the first time used as an ingredient in the components of Apple products. Previously, Apple also wears sapphire on camera lens and Home button on iPhone 5S.
In addition to iPhone 6, Apple rumored to be using sapphire on iWatch smart watch is expected to slide this year.
