China Will Build Special Stadium for eSports

Late last year, rumors circulated that the Chinese government would build a stadium on the banks of the Yangtze River in Chongqing City, western China.

Instead of providing facilities for sports athletes, such as basketball players, footballers or others, the stadium built by Hong Kong architect Barrie Ho will be used for eSports activities, both locally and internationally.

Later, the eSports stadium will be able to accommodate more than 7,000 people, with LED display walls that allow the entire building turned into a video screen for visitors who are outside the building.

Ho said, the architectural design of the building is inspired by the ying-symbol which with the wing section of the building extends from both sides of the arena, and is able to accommodate about 13,000 people.

The development of eSports industry itself is already long predicted to increase each year. Moreover, there is a possibility eSports category will appear as an official sport that will be competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Newzoo, a market analyst company, said it is not impossible that next year there will be more than 420 million people watching the eSports tournament. Given the 46 million people who watched last year's Intel Extreme Masters competition in Katowice, Poland.

"The number of people watching online eSports competitions is higher than the number of people watching NBA games," Ho said
